Ultra-thin form factor in a lightweight design

First Impression
My first impression on Galaxy Tab 10.1 is that it is really thin and light at 8.6mm and 565g in weight only. I can hold it comfortably with just one hand. Besides, I like how the buttons (Power, Volume, Sim card slot, Audio jack) and the stereo speakers were designed at the side.

The screen is shorter but longer when compared to iPad 2. The only thing I don't like is the screen "absorb" your thumbprints whenever you touch on it. Maybe they will be anti-glare & anti-thumbprints screen protector that you can install afterwards.

Specification
With the latest Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) OS, 10.1" WXGA 1280x800 display and 1GHz Dual Core application processor. Will it be an awesome tablet to have?

It is good to have surround sound stereo speakers at both side of Samsung Tab 10.1 as t does give better hearing experience. It don't have Microsoft Office but with Polaris Office that support your word document including PDF. I guess the major advantages of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 is the Adobe Flash Player 10.3 capability. Which does appear in their recent advertisement.



Battery Life
With the built-in 7,000mAh battery, Galaxy Tab 10.1 is really long life in playing video for up to 9 hours and music up to 17 hours. Do note that Network Connection highly affecting your tablet battery life =) The more frequent you use 3G & WiFi, the faster your battery die. However, so far when I surfing Youtube & play games on the Tablet I was surprised with its long battery life!



Processor Speed and GUI
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a Tegra 1GHz Dual Core application processor. Good enough to make sure your tablet perform well but I hope that they can upgrade the processor to have a smoother GUI Interface.

There are 5 walls that you can customize but not much widget to add on when I compare it with HTC Desire S. There are some widget where you can adjust the dimension, which is something new to have. I use it to have a large Photo Feature Widget. You can see it in my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review Video.


Task manager & Screen Capture shortcut on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
I like the easy access to Task Manager from the bottom of the screen as I can just switch off any application that I don't need anymore. I can also directly shut down all open applications to save RAM. I like the screen capture button cos it is easy for me to capture image and share with friends especially in this blog post =)


There is SWYPE keyboard preserved in this Samsung gadget. But it is not the default keyboard that you use, so remember to customize it.



YouTube Application
It looks awesome at first glance as all the videos appear as thumbnail and you can scroll between. However, you won't have a smooth experience if your Internet connection sucks because you can only toggle between mobile version(low quality) and HD version(need high speed) of YouTube video.

Therefore if you have not-so-good-bandwidth speed, I recommend you to use the Web Browser to watch YouTube instead. Thanks to the support of Adobe Flash player 10.3 capability.

Video and Audio Experience
My favourite part on Tablet as I get good music experience with the surrounding stereo speaker and high resolution screen (1280x800). You will have best video experience after you transfer your HD video inside the tab. 16GB internal storage. As for audio you can switch to 5.1-channel surround sound

Internet Browsing
For internet browsing, so far it is as good as other tablet. Can view full web page and you can enlarge the screen by just using two fingers. You can also play YouTube Video on the full page or even Facebook Game.

Camera & Video Recording
Well, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 3.0 Mega Pixel Camera AF with LED Flash and a 2.0 MP front camera. Even Samsung Galaxy S2 has a better camera and thinner too (8.49mm). I wonder why Samsung never put in better camera like Samsung Galaxy S2 because it will makes your Tablet more awesome. Hmm... Maybe the reason is to create the thinnest tablet with affordable price for us? I don't mind paying more for a better camera. Because it allows me create video with better quality too.



Gaming Experience
So far all the games that I've downloaded from Android market are playable. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 support 3D Graphic game and I get addicted to Zenonia 3 because of the smooth experience. You can always drift your racing car with your tablet =)



File Transfer & Synchronization with Kies Wifi
You can transfer your favourite music and video to your tablet with the cable provided but I suggest you to use Kies Wifi instead. When both your PC and Tablet connected to same wifi. It is really easy to have your file transfer and synchronization done. Another step of "cable-less technology". I wish Samsung will come out with a Wifi Charger accessories soon, so you can always charge your Tablet with the wifi around. Maybe can use RCA Airnergy too.



Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 AccessoriesThe Tablet is not showing its full capability without these accessories. I highly suggest you to get one of these to ease your life. I personally find the USB Adaptor is the most helpful adapter.

You can always get the accessories at nearest Samsung Retail Shop or Celcom Authorized Seller of Samsung Galaxy Tab.


This is a picture of a USB Drive was connected to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 using the USB adaptor (RPP: RM109). I will need it when I want to transfer favourite photo directly from my Nikon D90 =)


Here's the keyboard dock that doesn't need battery to function. But some people hope that this keyboard dock has a built in battery that can charge the tablet =)



Conclusion
My impression on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet is that it is a gadget made to compare with iPad 2 as you can see from the advertisement. Thinner, Adobe Flash Player 10.3 compatibility, similar charger point. it is the lightest and slimmest tablet for now, so you can carry around with ease. I will get one for mobile leisure purpose especially when I am traveling around. Will you get a Samsung Galaxy Tab after reading several reviews?



Get Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Malaysia from Celcom
According to Samsung and Celcom, the retail price in Malaysia is RM1899 (3G & WiFi) from 20 August onwards!

Preciously there is a RM99 special promo by Celcom in Piazza e@curve and RM999 promo at Penang and Johor Bahru. I hope you are one of the guy who manage to get it at RM99 or RM999. If not, here's the latest plan and package you can get from Celcom from as low as RM1,468 for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

1600 Pandas Flash Mob @ Perbadanan Putrajaya, Malaysia #1600Pandas

1600 Pandas @ Perbadanan Putrajaya Just came back from Putrajaya after paying a visit to the 1600 Pandas exhibited at Perbadanan Putrajaya . The pandas flash mob were supposed to last for two hours but around 11am++ the pandas were being kept back to the rack due to drizzling at the venue. Anyhow, I manage to get some photos for you guys (and myself) haha. I love this location because the pandas were being placed on the carpet grass right in front of the beautiful buildings in Putrajaya. Too bad that the weather wasn't sunny and the carpet grass became muddy after rain. Luckily I wore my Havaianas slipper or else I am in deep shit hahaha. Malaysia local celebrities Jeffrey Cheng 庄惟翔 and  TJ 东于哲 were spotted at Perbadanan Putrajaya doing photoshoot and quick interview with the media. Fun fun fun! After the  Tea-se Session with David DeCandia at Coffee Bean , both me and Jennifer went to the dog park in Desa ParkCity for a 1-on-1 photography workshop. I am glad that there are people who wanna learn photography from me and I am able to give guidance on this favourite topic.
