As a photographer, the first thing I looking forward from a new smartphone is of course their camera. I got this HTC M8 last week and gotta say it has an interesting Duo Camera at the back of the phone. Now let's check what are the specification for HTC M8 Duo Camera and Front Camera.

Duo camera
  • Primary camera: HTC UltraPixel™ camera , BSI sensor, pixel size 2.0 um, sensor size 1/3”, f/2.0, 28mm lens
  • HTC ImageChip 2. 1080p Full HD video recording with HDR video
  • Secondary camera: capture depth information

Front camera
  • 5MP, BSI sensor, wide angle lens. with HDR capability, 1080p Full HD video recording
  • Gallery with UFocus™, Dimension Plus™, Seasons, Foregrounder, Image match

Ever since HTC phone got this UltraPixel Camera, it never mention how many mega pixel it can capture anymore. According to GSMArena, the Duo Camera is actually 4 MP creating 2688х1520 pixels images. So far I have not done any night time photography/using their flash yet. But this post is to showcase some photo taken using it during my recent Singapore trip at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Orchid Garden, Bugis Street and Sentosa Island. I find it really handy as a compact camera and definitely can perform well during day time. Now check out the photos taken using HTC M8 below:

Since most of the time I was in the park, beside using my DSLR with a wide angle lens, I use HTC M8 for  most of the close-up and macro shot. The HTC M8's 'Macro mode' is the best to use to capture close-up photo of the plants.

It is really easy to just point and shoot using HTC M8 'Macro Mode'. There is a big exposure difference when you point focus on BLACK/WHITE object. It is good when you capture white flowers but when capture dark flowers, the image will tends to get overexposed. Of course you can manually change its exposure using the manual mode.

Do note that 'Dual capture' is disabled when using 'Macro Mode'. In my next post I will show more feature regarding this HTC M8 camera that let you create further bokeh effects besides all the funky photo filter and effects.

Nearby Bugis Street in Singapore, there are a few blocks of these beautiful buildings with different colors. Definitely looks good to be captured with the HTC M8 since the camera is just a swipe away. I took this quickly while crossing on the pedestrian road.

In conclusion, HTC M8 Camera is good enough to give you fast and good enough quality photo for your phone and even computer screen. I am not sure if it is the sound effect but it seems like HTC M8 can capture photo faster than my Samsung GALAXY Note 3. However, I hate the sound HTC M8 camera emit when I do point focussing, so most of the time I mute the phone to avoid that freaky focusing sound.

That's all for my HTC M8 Camera review (for now), there are video feature that I haven't check out properly yet. Stay tuned!! If you got any question about HTC M8 that want me to test it out, let me know!!
