I rarely attend and cover fashion event but this time it is about a local designer who manage to build his brand all the way to oversea and I am eager to shoot some catwalk photos and to check out the new hotel. Hence that's why I went to Bernard Chandran Petang Raya 2016/2017 at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur.
This yearly event is pretty grand and I gotta say I am quite impressed with some of the new Bernard Chandran design and also the presentation by The St. Regis KL using LED Seamless Projection System. Below are the 47 new looks by Bernard Chandran for season 2016/2017

It seems like this is not an ordinary fashion event as there were VIP from the royal families. Everybody was nicely dressed up and I've spotted several celebrities and personalities who attended this event. I did enjoyed this fashion show as it give me the looks of girl dressing up fashionably and looking gorgeous at the same time. My only question is, when would a guy dressed up in pink and carry a pink handbag too? ;p
Design story behind Bernard Chandran Petang Raya 2016/2017
"Influenced by the insights and beauty of designing for the aristocrats and a royal clientele, Bernard Chandran channeled inspiration from the joys to social expectations and confines of a royal princess in his tenth anniversary Petang Raya show. Evident in this collection, we see Bernard Chandran paying special homage to Her Majesty the Queen of Brunei's regal style from her preferred floral silk prints headscarves to her bejeweled attire..
Staying true to his consistency by bringing fresh concepts and continuous updates to the traditional Malay wear, the Petang Raya collection also came to a queenly height when Bernard Chandran introduced several revolutionary styles of cut, contrasting colours, prints and textures, with ‘70s undertones to the overall formation.
Breaking free from the restrictions of printed fabrics with their stereotyped usage and rigid outcomes, mixing many prints and colours in a single design was the order of the day. The real statement was the impact to the natural contrast of the many prints, whilst retaining an overall serenity and calm that is easy on the eyes. This twist is exciting, literally taking the dull moments out of an outfit, yet resulting in a super refined style, staying true to its original inspirations.
Apart from the interesting fabric combinations and fused colour palettes, the master of design and cut gave us a cohesive and glamorous collection that never failed to impress. Innovative easy silhouettes were further emblazoned with intricate beading, rich embellishments and eye-catching sequins whilst sophisticated cut skirts including one-sided back flipped and box pleated fluid trains that spread into a natural uplifting flare at the edges.
The style here is not simply throwing everything together but rather relies heavily on the building blocks of well thought out designs from colours and prints to cut and texture composition. The transitional look that bridges contemporary and traditional design is considered the quintessence of Bernard Chandran and paired with a deep rooted sense of constantly ‘pushing boundaries’, he has masterfully brought a contemporary edge to his royal inspiration, one of a luxury vision of mind-blowing modern sophistication.
Completing the looks, the runway was further bedazzled in opulent jewellery by Elegance Club, known for its lavish gem-encrusted designs and exquisite handbags by Kabinet, a luxury multi-brand retailer. "

Some casual photos taken during the event: It was good to see friends over there haha! At least I don't feel that alone.
There was an interview session with Dato' Bernard Chandran and it was kinda cool that he shared what inspired him in this collection and how his daily routine gonna be like. Honestly Dato'Bernard has a photogenic face as a model somehow and he looks young at the age of 48 this year. For more info about his latest collection do check out bernardchandran.com.
